Justin Morneau: 1st Team All-Star Struggle

June 2, 2010

There is little doubt in the minds of many Minnesotans that Justin Morneau should be starting in this year’s All Star Game if he keeps up his phenominal defense and earth shattering offense. Morneau is currently batting .374, with 12 homeruns, and 37 rbi’s. If those stats aren’t impressive enough, Justin’s on-base percentage is a staggering .489. This means he is on base nearly 1 out of every 2 at bats. So with these stats why wouldn’t Morneau be a 1st team All-Star? Because of the Media Juggernaut out East. For years Yankees and Red Sox have dominated these lineups, deserving or not. The larger market teams seem to have the most fan votes and this is all that matters in the world of the All-Star selection. That and each team HAS to have one player. It is only fitting that the player ahead of Morneau in votes is Mark Teixeira of the New York Yankees. It’s just one more reason for Twins fans to hate the Bronx Bombers. Teixeira is batting a ridiculous .220 currently with only 8 homeruns, and an on-base percentage of a small .339. Yes, Teixeira’s OBP is smaller than Morneau’s batting average…not sayin’ just sayin’. Teixeira does have Morneau in one category and that is rbi’s. Teixeira has 1 more rbi than Justin, giving him 38. Please, if you’re a fan of the game and hate to see a player from a great organization such as the Twins get robbed of an honor like this, vote Morneau.
